Hemi Weekly Featuring Max Sanchez
October 8, 2024
The Hemi Network just hosted its first weekly AMA, featuring co-founder Max Sanchez, who provided important updates and answered community questions. Here’s a quick breakdown of the session:
Open Season Testing: A Big Success
Max kicked off the AMA with updates from the Open Season testing, where the community participated in over 44,000 tunneling transactions with more than 8,200 unique EOAs. The testing gave valuable insights into Hemi’s infrastructure and revealed areas for improvement, especially around gas fee estimation in the tunneling contract. While Sepolia’s gas fees skyrocketed during testing, things have since normalized.
Max also shared that the team is undergoing an infrastructure migration, moving to a more stable hosting provider to better handle the backend traffic. While the current system is still operating at the same capacity, the new infrastructure will soon offer better uptime and scalability.
Future Tech Demos and HVM Updates
Exciting news for developers: Hemi is working on some technical updates around the hVM (Hemi Virtual Machine). New tech demos and workshops are on the horizon, giving developers more opportunities to explore the platform’s capabilities.
The POP Miner on the web has faced issues due to API rate limiting from Blockstream, but the team is working on spinning up its own API to resolve this. Until then, Max suggested using the CLI version of the PoP Miner for better performance.
When asked if there would be more open season events, Max confirmed that the team is considering more testing, particularly on L2 tasks and load testing. However, the days of stressing Sepolia for load tests are over—future tests will focus on L2 itself.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
The team is keen on working with developers interested in building on Hemi, especially around smart contracts, DeFi, AI, and hVM-related applications. Max emphasized that anyone with a project idea should get in touch, as Hemi is looking to foster technical partnerships that contribute to the ecosystem.
Key Takeaways:
- Open Season Testing provided critical insights into gas fee issues and performance under load.
- Hemi is migrating to a more stable infrastructure to improve scalability and uptime.
- New HVM tech demos and workshops are coming soon, offering hands-on opportunities for developers.
- Popminer issues will be resolved with the transition to a new API—until then, the CLI version is recommended.
- More open season events are likely, focusing on L2 load testing and scaling.
Stay tuned for more updates from Hemi, and join next week’s AMA on Tuesday. Details to come!
